  • Did you know that one out of every three women has been beaten, raped,
or abused in her lifetime. As women, we are very fortunate to live in a country where we can reach out to our sisters around the world to take action.  We can join Amnesty International or work with our churches to send money and supplies to those areas in the world where women are so poorly treated.  Another way that we may take action is to see that leaders of the world are enacting laws for a new era in women's human rights.   I found this simple way that we can act for those who can't.  I was at Care2 website and they had this particular opportunity available to all of us.  Send it to your friends.  It requires you to go to the site once a day and click the STOP button.

Click to end violence against women today: http://stopviolence.care2.com

Every click helps Amnesty International generates 3 letters to put pressure on decision makers, urging them to take actions to prevent rape, domestic abuse, war and other violent crimes committed against women and girls worldwide.

Such a simple thing that could effect millions of women around the world.

Read up about it at Care2 and click away.   zera

  • :heartbeat: I went to care2 and I clicked!

Though I have never spoken of it on xanga, I assure you it was a daily part of my life for a while in the 80's. I was married to an abuser for 14 years. First he physically abused me, and when he stopped that part, he emotionally abused me until I walked out at the beginning of 1995. The set up for that is growning up in a family where that was the "norm" and putting up with it in your own life.

I will not endure it at all anymore, though I still seem to put up with more than I should.

  • BTW, thanks for the note!:goodjob:

  • :sunny:  Everytime I get online I do go to care2.com.  Another thing that might interest you:  http://www.navs.org  Products that are not tested on animals.  Education on issues not seen in local papers:  http://www.thegloballist.com & http://www.utne.com   President Bush's official comment line - leave a brief thought or concern...Well I'll put that number on my site-don't want to get anyone in trouble when it comes to the president.  Hey I need to put all this on my site...Hey I think I will.  My apologies for rambling on your comments

  • I tried to sign up at Care2, but every identity name I picked, it said the name had already been taken. K8WCHQ was already taken? I don't think so! After about 10 tries to establish an account, I just gave up.

  • :wha: Talk about strange!  Xanga wouldn't let me leave a comment at my own site.  Weird.

  • I clicked. I have always found it to be hypocritical to talk about human rights and yet ignore all of the oppressed, abused women around the world. None of the G5 recognized what was happening in Afghanistan to women until 9/11. A hundred thousand women gone, without a trace, and no one seemed to care, but have it be a few hundred men, and the world is falling apart. (I'm not talking about 9/11. I'm talkng about the genocides in other countries.) Any death due to accident, genocide, and/or violence is a tragedy.

    hugs,
    wf
