This chart has been copied from an article entitled "What Foods Trigger Your Heartburn" by Sharon Gillson published at About.com. I have GERD and am interested not only in the foods that trigger the reflux but what alternative to medicine I have for getting rid of the problem.
Foods To Avoid On The Acid Reflux Diet
My main concern with the reflux is what damage has been done to my esophagus. I have had the condition for many years but only in the past two have I been treated for it. I want to be able to stop taking Nexium, if possible, and find an alternative that really works. My husband and I have been slowing changing our diet to exclude foods that are just not good for us. But we are also human and enjoy many delightful foods from this good earth. So, it seems a good idea to look at ways to enjoy eating and being healthy at the same time. If anyone has some good suggestions, I would love to hear from you.

Once a year Friends from all across the land gather together in global harmony, on a peaceful plushy PeachyOrangeCarpet, to learn about the nature of this thing called "friendship" and to better understand the goodness and differences in each other.
We of ThePOC ask ourselves, "What Is Friendship?" "What does it mean?"
Do you dare answer the 20 questions of Friendship?
-BOOOOYA!
:sunny:I love mached potatoes as well. Just won't have them as often. zera
Papaya juice? It soothes the system....ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
I have had GERD for 15+ years now - anything that has a lot of sugar in it, such as juices, alcohol, and most deserts play havoc with me. Coffee I must have first thing in the morning - strangely, while it settles me, after 10.am it becomes the opposite, so I do not drink it for the rest of the day. The only carbonated drink I do is Coke, and that may or may not upset me, but a Rolaid settles it down immediately. The others just make me very sick within minutes. I am a milk drinker, and it is not a problem, neither are any of the cheeses, but icecream has sugar, and while I do eat it on the odd occasion, I have to have those Rolaids handy. Never had any problems with potatoes in any form, nor with any regular meats. It is those that have been processed and are heavy in saturated fats and additives that cause problems, so I avoid them. Whole wheat products just turn into acid indigestion almost immediately, but I can eat white bread no problem. Spicy foods, for the most part I have no problem with either, for which I am glad, as I love my spicy foods.
I think it is a matter of testing out each individual food that you like, and seeing if they upset you immediately or not. I have found that so many items considered to be bad for this are not the ones I am affected by, and others really do a job on me, so I came to the conclusion it is a personal thing, and not one that a blanket list fully applies to.
:sunny:It is tough to get old. However, thanks to Tums and an assortment of other things - I am gong to try papaya juice - I intend to continue on with my usual eating patterns. I love mashed potatoes. zera
